Hey Kekai,

I wonder if you sometimes get bored of doing the same design elements in lots of your paintings? I mean those gold and shiny tribal like armor parts. Or is it just the thing you love and can't get enough of it?

=) cheers,
minze

miNze - Not really, I really do love it but I do try to do stuff different when I can. Sometimes I fall back on it, like when doing a live demo where I don't really have time to think. Other times, like this Paladin I was following the design doc. Thanks for the question, hope it helps.

Izzy & Toby- Thanks guys!

Nice work! Do you always start on the computer or do you do some preliminary sketches before you start a project.

sick work, man. Thanks for sharing the process with us.

when doing magic cards, what kind of description are you given to work with and how much freedom do you usually get with the finals? Was wondering and figured this is a good a place as any to ask! haha

Eric - Usually they are fairly short and concise. Spells will have more of a explanation to help show some sort effect. Creatures and characters will have concepts to follow. There's is a fair amount of freedom in the final. MTG is more concerned with having badass art then being on point with design. You just have to make sure the art that you produce is readable on the card itself.
